Before you can start adding items, you need to install the Browser Extension: How to add the Chrome Bookmark Extension.
Are you a Roehampton Online (Future Learn) member of staff? If yes, please follow your separate guidance. |
Bookmarking resources for your lists is easy. The best way to do this is by using the Chrome Browser Extension for Talis. If you don't have Chrome installed on the computer you are using, you can download the browser.
Step 2: Installing the Talis bookmarking extension (2 mins)
Written instructions:
Due to increased security in browsers, those staff using the original ‘Add to My Bookmarks’ bookmarklet tool may find that it will stop working on a number of sites which you previously bookmarked from.
To prevent issues in bookmarking resources, we strong recommend using the new official Talis Bookmarking Extension instead. Please follow the instructions above on how to install the extension.
Step 3: Adding items to resource lists (7 mins)

Note for Library: This function is no longer used and digitisation requests made through this route will not be processed. To request a Digitisation, please click on the three vertical dots to the right of the item and select Request a Digitisation. See Request a Digitisation Guidance.

It is possible to search and bookmark items not held in the Library that will then get picked up by our Collections Team for ordering. UR Library Search can expand to search Libraries Worldwide. The easiest way to do this is:
Note for Library: This function is no longer used and digitisation requests made through this route will not be processed. To request a Digitisation, please click on the three vertical dots to the right of the item and select Request a Digitisation. See Request a Digitisation Guidance.
Click OK to save your bookmark. Your item will be added directly onto your resource list and you can carry on adding new items.
We strongly recommend that you make use of the UR Library Search Libraries Worldwide filter for eBooks, books and journal articles. This allows us to capture more accurate item details for your resource lists than other webpages.
Bookmarking from other websites like publisher webpages also often results in an item being bookmarked as a webpage and therefore not being picked up our ordering processes.
If you are unable to find the item on UR Library Search and use another website to bookmark the item for your resource list, please pay close attention to the information that is pulled through and make any necessary amendments before saving. Also ensure the resource type is marked as "Book" as our ordering report only picks up items set as a "Book" resource type.
You can quickly add an item from your saved bookmarks by selecting the 'Add Resource' button that appears when you hover between items in the list:
Your most recent bookmarks then display in a pop-up screen (Show More or Search to find older bookmarks). Just select the item you want to add to the list, remembering to set Importance level. It is a good idea to re-use your bookmarks this way, rather than creating new ones for the same item, as the link will be more stable.
The Library provides digitisations under the Higher Education Copyright Licensing Agency (CLA) agreement to improve student accessibility to teaching materials. We do this by embedding the digitisations directly into resource lists alongside other readings. In addition, all digitisations requested via the Library are screen reader-compatible.
As well as being copyright cleared, requesting digitisations via the Library ensures that the CLA can collect information about the licensed content users copy in order to pay royalties to these organisations and partners, who then distribute the money to their members, including authors, visual artists, and publishers.
The Library can digitise from print books or journal articles where they are not already provided in digital format by the Library. The book or journal must be listed on a current module resource list, and marked on the list as Essential reading.
We can digitise one chapter or up to 10% of the total number of pages, whichever is greater. However there are some exceptions, usually where a title has been published overseas, e.g. in the US. We will always check copyright permissions before we digitise and will get in touch with you if there are any problems. You can also have a look at CLA website to see what can be copied or scanned under the CLA Higher Education License.
We also offer a Digitisation Service for Disabled Students (DSDS) which provides teaching and learning materials in an accessible format to students who are visually impaired or those who cannot physically manipulate a book. This is arranged with the student via the Disability Service.
If there are any problems with your request the team will be in touch with you via email.
