Adding Talis Plugin to Moodle Weekly Sections

Adding the Talis Plugin to Moodle Weekly Sections

The Resource List Framework sets the standard for how resource lists should be embedded in Moodle. Weekly readings should sit within their designated section on the module site.

For each week you will need to add the corresponding section, but once you have done these steps the sections will automatically update with any changes you make to the resource list once you have published them, and carry over each new academic year.

While in edit mode on Moodle, select Add an activity or resource inside the section where you'd like to add a resource list week.

Select the Talis Course Resource List option from the choices offered.

Customising the Talis Plugin

Customising the Talis Plugin on Moodle

When adding in each weekly section, we recommend two changes to provide the best experience for students.

  • Under General: Change the Section title from the default description 'Course Resource List' to 'Week (X) Reading' to let students know they are only viewing the weekly section.
  • Under Display: Select Inline on a course page to allow students to view the resource list section alongside your other materials for the week.

Adding a link in Moodle to a universal resource list

The Library curates a small collection of universal resource lists on a range of topics, including:

These lists (or sections of) can be added to Moodle in much the same way as adding module readings.

To start, follow the procedure for Adding the Talis Plugin to Moodle Weekly Sections (see section above).

Customising the Talis Plugin for generic lists

When adding in the generic list, or section of the list, we recommend two changes to provide the best experience for students:

  • Under General: Change the Section title from the default description 'Course Resource List' to a title that describes the readings, e.g. Dissertation readings & resources.
  • Under Display: Select Inline on a course page to allow students to view the resource list section alongside your other materials in the section.

After selecting Link to resource list or section at the bottom of the screen, you will need to manually type in the title of the universal list that you want Moodle to link, by copying and pasting the titles that are listed above.

Once you have selected the generic list you can either, link to the whole list, or section of it, using the Sections drop-down menu.
