SensusAccess

Convert your documents into accessible formats

SensusAccess is a self service automated document conversion service provided through University of Roehampton that allows you to convert PDFs, PowerPoint presentations, JPEG and other files into alternative formats.

You can convert your readings, slides, lecture notes into:

MP3 files,
E-books,
Digital Braille books,
Document conversion (e.g. docx, xlsx, csv, html, txt, rtf).

You can also use SensusAccess to convert tricky documents, such as non-OCR PDFs into more accessible formats. Please note that eBooks and eArticles that cannot be downloaded as PDF from their respective platforms cannot be converted using Sensus Access. The quality of a conversion is dependent upon the quality of the original document.

It is recommended that you enable Third Party Cookies when using Google Chrome for the webform to work or use Firefox. See "The webform does not work when using Google Chrome" FAQ.

Please note that you need to use your University of Roehampton email address (or have requested access as an Alumni) with this self service tool.

SensusAccess e-learning Course
This course is intended for students, staff, faculty and others who are converting material into alternate formats such as audio books, e-books, digital large-print and Braille, either for themselves or on behalf of others. The course also covers how SensusAccess can be used to improve the accessibility of documents and to make documents easier to work with.

Conditions of Use

Conditions of use

SensusAccess allows you to make accessible copy if:

you own the copyright (eg, it's your own work),
you have permission from the copyright holder,
the copyright has expired,
you have a print disability or if it's for someone with a print disability.

Users using SensusAccess need to agree that:

the copy won't be shared with others,
you abide by the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act, 1988, Section 31A (Disabled persons: copies of works for personal use),
you abide by the Data Protection Act when storing or sharing converted files that contain personal data.

Who can use SensusAccess?

SensusAccess can be used by current staff and students as well as alumni (upon request). You do not have to be eligible for Digitisation Service for Disabled Students (DSDS) to use this self service tool.

How do I request access as an alumni?

We are working on making this available to alumni from Summer 2021.

What do I need to do to use SensusAccess?

Step 1: Upload your file(s) to SensusAccess using the form below.

Step 2: Select the type of file you would like your file to be converted to.

Step 3: Enter your Roehampton email address (personal email addresses will not work unless you are Alumni and have requested access).

Step 4: After a short time (depending on the size and type of file being converted) a link to your converted file will be emailed to you to open or download.
