The University provides various tools that students can use to adapt materials into a format that meets your needs. These include:
- eBook Accessibility Guide for ways to convert eBooks to other formats, including audio books.
- Assistive software available on all library PCs such as ClaroRead Plus (text-to-speach), ClaroView (coloured overlay), MindView (mind mapping tool), plus links to accessibility features built into Microsoft, Apple and Adobe.
- SensusAccess which converts documents into accessible formats.
- Blackboard Ally reviews Moodle resources for accessibility, and gives you the option to convert materials into more accessible formats.
- Caption.Ed - provides instant captions and transcripts for audiovisual content such as lecture recordings and videos. You can sign up for a free Caption.Ed account, and add a browser extension to Chrome or Edge which generates accurate, automated captions on demand. For more details, see this Caption.Ed guide.
Many such tools are provided and supported by eLearning Services. See their Digital Accessibility and Inclusivity pages for details of all the tools and advice available, such as web browser features, and guidance for staff on how to make your teaching content more accessible for all students.
Teaching staff can find further information on eLearning's Accessible and Inclusive Learning guide, including the University’s Disability Policy, UK legislation, and how to create accessible Word and Powerpoint documents.
