Have you noticed that some of our databases are looking different? This is because EBSCOhost, who provide some of our most popular databases, have recently redesigned their user interface (UI).

The new UI includes many new features including improved accessibility, personalised dashboards, new ways to share and like resources, read e-books and much more.

Our EBSCOhost databases include:

For user guidance covering each of our EBSCO databases, click on the question mark beside the relevant entry in our A-Z database list. You can also browse the collected guidance here

Personalisation

To use the new, enhanced personalisation features in an EBSCO database, you’ll first need to create a personal account. You’ll then have access to your dashboard, where you can create and manage projects, set up search alerts, and manage your saved results and searches. Detailed guidance is available on making the most of the dashboard, as well as  basic and advanced searching, applying filters to your search, and bookmarking your results

Translation & Accessibility

Another feature of the new UI is enhanced translation options. Once you have created a personal account (see above), you can choose the language of the database interface. Then, when you come to view a search result, such as a journal article, in Online Full Text, you can translate the full text from English to one of over 110 available languages.

The text-to-speech function has also been enhanced in EBSCO’s new UI. Text-to-speech works to read articles and passages out loud and is available when opening publications in both Online Full Text and PDF views. You can set the playback speed, navigate to specific parts of the text, highlight portions of the read-aloud text, or download it as an MP3.
